Last summer I wrote a post on a “Lifesaver Stop Patch” for Windows 10 Automatic Upgrade.  Many customers and clients contacted us and took action.  For a number of others, we helped upgrade their computer to Windows 10.  After getting everything synced with Windows 10, many people noticed quickly their computer took longer to boot up, fetch data, and run programs.  Solid State Drives or SSD for Sale Elk River, Ramsey, St. Cloud, Rogers, Otsego, ZimmermanThe cause of this was an old hard drive. Windows 10 moves faster than their old hard drive can handle.  But, regardless, if one notices this annoying lag time as a result from upgrading to Windows 10, or if it is simply because your current hard drive is old, there is a solution; Solid State Drives or SSD.  Fortunately, for the vast majority of swap outs, replacing your old hard drive with an SSD is uncomplicated, inexpensive, and can be integrated seamlessly with your current computer or network.

SSD Drives Run Faster-Are Inexpensive.

In addition to running faster, SSD’s are much more affordable than just a few years ago (C|NET, Doug Ngo, Upgrade to an SSD: The best way to make your computer feel like new, July 15, 2016, https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-upgrade-ssd-windows-10/).

What is a Solid State Drive, SSD?

Simply described, a standard SSD looks like a traditional 2.5-inch laptop or desktop hard drive, but is much faster (C|NET, Doug Ngo, Upgrade to an SSD: The best way to make your computer feel like new, July 15, 2016, https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-upgrade-ssd-windows-10/).

I Just Got Everything Synced with Windows 10; Is SSD another Headache?

No.  As long as you are running Windows 7, 8, or 10, you CAN KEEP YOUR SOFTWARE, DATA, and SETTINGS, EXACTLY THE SAME. (C|NET, Doug Ngo, Upgrade to an SSD: The best way to make your computer feel like new, July 15, 2016, https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-upgrade-ssd-windows-10/).

Take Caution “Do it Yourselfers”-Contact RB’s Computer Service to Swap in an SSD.

At RB’s Computer Service, we value pinching a penny.  But consider this; “the replacement process basically involves cloning the entire existing hard drive content to an SSD, then physically taking the hard drive out of the computer and placing the SSD in its place (C|NET, Doug Ngo, Upgrade to an SSD: The best way to make your computer feel like new, July 15, 2016, https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-upgrade-ssd-windows-10/).”  Like plugging in a lamp cord into a socket, the latter is pretty easy to do; most people can take out the old hard drive and insert an SSD.  But the former, cloning the data, is not as simple, requires some tools, like a USB-to-SATA adapter, cloning software, and professional knowledge, like how much RAM you need to ensure it is done correctly and seamlessly (HONGKIAT, Brian Voo, Solid State Drives (SSD) Upgrade – 5 Things You Should Know, October, 2016, https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/solid-state-drives-upgrade/).  Pinching a penny is one thing, but pinching a penny until it screams is another.  If your cloned data is incomplete or lost, it will most likely be you doing the screaming rather than the penny saved.  In most cases, for under $250, RB’s Computer Service can upgrade your PC to an SSD drive.

SSD-Performance Expectations.

In addition to speed and it is inexpensive to upgrade, SSD’s uses less electric power than a conventional hard drive.  This means longer battery life for your laptop or desktop.  But, SSD’s cannot help speed up external “partners” your computer interacts with.  For example, an SSD will not render a video while playing a PC game nor make a games graphics smother or load web pages faster (HONGKIAT, Brian Voo, Solid State Drives (SSD) Upgrade – 5 Things You Should Know, October, 2016, https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/solid-state-drives-upgrade/).

For under $250, RB’s Computer Service would be glad to help you get your PC moving faster with a Solid State Drive, SSD.
