Several of RB’s Computer Service customers have recently asked us if they should upgrade to Windows 11. The word is getting out that Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 in October 2025 (COMPUTERWORLD, Susan Bradley, With Windows 10 going away, time to get serious about Windows 11, May 1, 2023, https://www.computerworld.com/article/3694932/with-windows-10-going-away-time-to-get-serious-about-windows-11.html). Nearly all these inquiries are from customers RB’s Computer Service helped upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 in 2020. Understandably, this all seems like déjà vu for these customers, in particular for our small business customers. When Microsoft ended support for Windows 7, many of them found themselves flat-footed with security vulnerabilities, compatibility problems, compliance concerns, and limited technical support. The situation pushed many users and organizations to upgrade to Windows 10. To avoid a mad scramble down the road, it makes sense for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 today. In addition to this, in this blog, I’ll highlight three more reasons to upgrade to Windows 11 today.
3 More Reasons to Upgrade to Windows 11
• Security
If security is a priority for your personal and business data, Windows 11 will serve you well. Windows 10 will continue to get security updates until October 14, 2025. However, Windows 11 has a stronger security base from the ground up.
• App Friendly
Windows 11 brings some great new features as it relates to Apps, and Windows 10 isn’t going to get most if ANY of them. For example, you can install Android apps on Windows 11, and you can even sideload the Play Store if you’re a bit more adventurous.
• Great for Multitasking
Windows 11 has a focus on multitasking, with the new Snap Layouts, Snap Groups, and the ability to remember your layouts for multiple displays. These may seem like small things, but they add to a much better multitasking experience (ANDROID AUTHORITY, Palash Volvoikar, Windows 11: What you should know before upgrading (or not), August 4th, 2023, https://www.androidauthority.com/windows-11-should-you-upgrade-3038631/).
Overcoming 2 Objections to Upgrading to Windows 11
• Windows 11 Doesn’t Look Like Windows 10
One big objection RB’s Computer Service heard when we helped Windows 7 users upgrade to Windows 10 was that Windows 10 didn’t look like Windows 7, making it cumbersome to navigate. Fortunately, Windows 11 can be configured to look like Windows 10. PCWorld provides a guide that can be found here: (PCWorld, Matthew S. Smith, How to make Windows 11 look like Windows 10, April 22, 2022, https://www.pcworld.com/article/541452/make-windows-11-look-like-windows-10.html). This guide explains the steps necessary to customize the look and feel of Windows 11 to make it look more like Windows 10, such as modifying the Start menu, the taskbar, and the desktop background, as well as setting the same visual settings. If you get stuck on this, RB’s Computer Service would be glad to help you. Don’t hesitate to contact us today at 763 441-3884.
• My PC is too Outdated to Run Windows 11
If you are using a computer that initially came with Windows 7, then upgraded to Windows 10, and now want to upgrade to Windows 11, it is likely less expensive to buy a previously owned commercial-grade laptop or desktop with Windows 11 installed in it. For one, the processor, RAM, memory, and hard drive in a Windows 7-era PC can’t carry the load that Windows 11 can demand. Updating these components would cost more than buying a previously owned commercial-grade laptop. If this is you, the good news is RB’s Computer Service sells previously owned commercial-grade laptops starting at $495 with Windows 11 and Solid-State Drives (SSDs) installed in them. SSD drives are faster, quieter, and last longer than Windows 7-era PCs with a hard drive.
