I think it is ingrained in our American hearts to immediately feel a spark of anger when we hear or read this word; “Outsourced.” I’m dedicating this post to argue why it makes sense to outsource your office network’s management. Partnering with RB’s Computer Service with a managed IT service agreement is not only a good thing but will certainly save your business money and headaches at some point in time. Let me briefly share three situations I encountered with clients, for this post I’ll call them “Joe, Sue, and Jim.”
- Joe: Lost 20% of all of his company’s data on a server where they lost 2 drives out of their RAID and the drives needed to be sent to a data recovery specialist to get the 80% of the data remaining. This took them down for about a month before the remaining data was even recovered. This cost Joe 10’s of thousands of dollars. Further he could not run his business functions such as billing clients for work done. Finally, the employees being paid to do billing could not do their job for a month. For about the price of what Joe paid for his lunch each day of that month, this could have been prevented with an RB’s Computer Service Managed IT Service Agreement. (***Disclaimer, service agreement terms and fees are provided for in each written service agreement and vary depending on a businesses’ needs***).
- Sue: She had issues accessing her QuickBooks file and tried to fix them on her own. She ended up mounting an old file, go on and enter data for a period and then realize something was not right, call us and have us look at it. We determined at this point that the real file had simply gotten moved, and now all of the time they had spent entering data on the old file was lost and they had to re-enter all of this. She lost time and couldn’t recall information she entered or destroyed the month prior. For about the price of what Sue paid for her lunch each day of that month, this could have been prevented with an RB’s Computer Service Managed IT Service Agreement.
- Jim: He understands the concept of having a backup for emergencies. He has a “kicker” motor on his boat for this purpose, and elected to do his own office network backups, configuring the backup options, and monitoring them. When he needed to do a restore, he found that he only had some files backed up. Many of his important files had never been backed up. Recovery was not an option at that point and he had to start over from scratch with these files. For about the price of what Jim paid for his lunch each day of that month, this could have been prevented with an RB’s Computer Service Managed IT Service Agreement.
Joe, Sue, and Jim are gifted small business owners and successful. They have learned a number of things to grow their businesses and maintain them. They wear many hats. However, managed IT services, also called IT consulting, IT support, or IT managed services doesn’t need to be one of them. Nor should it be for the bookkeeper, the sales rep./manager, or the office manager, etc. The “IT” task often gets delegated to one of these people for a number of reasons. This makes as much sense as having one of them take home the company truck when it breaks down, watch a YouTube video and fix it in their garage. Your office network is too important for one, and if you caught the message above, for about the price most people pay for lunch each day the month, your small business could have a Managed IT Service Agreement with RB’s Computer Service.
In my next post, I’ll write about our 3 main service agreement packages, “Bronze, Silver, and Gold.”
